In 1991, he graduated from S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. In 1997, he defended his candidate's thesis, and in 2010 - his doctor's thesis specializing in anesthesiology and intensive care. 

Dr. Schegolev specializes in anesthesiology and intensive care, he is the author of more than 260 publications, including 8 monographs and 2 national guidelines. Hirsch index of Dr. Schegolev makes 8 according to RSCI and 2 according to Scopus.  

With his colleagues as co-authors he published 4 articles in foreign journals (Journal of Emergencies, Trauma and Shock etc.) and in 30 journal within Scopus. Dr. Schegolev is a member of American Society of Anesthesiologists, European Society of Anesthesiologists, European Society of Intensive Medicine, NCC. 

Dr. Schegolev is a member of Editorial Boards of four Russian journals: Messenger of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, Russian journal of Anaesthesiology and Reanimatology, Intensive Care Herald (Deputy Editor-in-Chief). For the 5 years of his work he reviewed more than 140 manuscripts submitted to editorial boards. 

Dr. Schegolev is regularly invited to present at the Russian and international conferences (Denmark, Copenhagen, 2015, Saudi Arabia, Jeddah, 2016, India, Delhi, 2018).
