The doctors of Department provide support during the surgeries performed in all the departments of Clinical Oncology Research Institute with its 26 operative theaters, equipped with up-to-date anesthetic respiratory systems, monitors, syringe dosing devices, cell savers, heaters for patients and solutions, defibrillators, cardiostimulators etc. All efficient modern methods of anesthesia and intensive care are implemented in the Department, including low-flow anesthesia with sevoflurane, epidural, spinal and spinal-epidural anesthesia, high-frequency pulmonary ventilation, cell salvage etc., due to all above surgeons can perform surgeries of immense complexity, including surgeries in patients with severe concurrent conditions and very limited functional reserves.

Being the part of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department, the well-equipped group of rapid laboratory diagnostics assists anesthesiologists and emergency physicians in their work. The following tests can be performed day-and-night: acid-base balance, blood gases and electrolytes, main metabolites, blood coagulation rates and some relevant urine tests.

There is a postanaesthesia care ward (early postanesthesia adaptation) in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department. This is a special ward adjacent to the operative theater, where all patients are transferred after surgery, but for those who need treatment in the intensive care unit. Patients spend several hours there which is needed to stabilize main their functions, and after that, they are transferred to surgery wards. A postanaesthesia care ward is equipped with modern monitors, oxygen inhalators, artificial pulmonary ventilation units etc. Anesthesiologists and nurses who had special training work there by shifts. All the above provide proper conditions for the smooth and safe course of earliest and most vulnerable period of restoration after surgery and anesthesia, and comprehensive intensive care if necessary. The patient capacity of operative theaters has been increased due to the organization of the above ward.
