
Yury S. Aleksandrovich was born on July 27, 1963.
In 1988 he graduated from Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute.
From 1988 to 1990 Dr. Aleksandrovich was a clinical resident at Children Surgery Department of Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute specializing in anesthesiology and intensive care.
Since 1990 he had been a postgraduate student and since September 1, 1992, he had been an assistant at the same department.
In 1995 he defended his candidate's thesis on Psychomotor Development of Children who Underwent Surgery and Intensive Care as Newborns.
Since 1997, Dr. Aleksandrovich had been an Associate Professor at Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Emergency Pediatrics Department with Professional Development Training of St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy.
And since March 04, 2003, he had been a Head of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Emergency Pediatrics Department with Professional Development Training of St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy.
In October 2003, he defended his doctor's thesis: Clinical Physiologic and Neuro-Psychological Implications of Life Quality Changes of Children after Neuro-Intensive Care of Brain Injury.
In 2004 he was awarded the Professor's title.
Since 2009, Pr. Aleksandrovich has been Chief Visiting Pediatric Anesthesiologist and Emergency Physician of Healthcare Committee of St. Petersburg, and since 2011 - Chief Pediatric Anesthesiologist and Emergency Physician of the Russian Ministry of Health in the North-Western Federal District, Member of City Certification Commission in Pediatrics, Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care.
He is a member of Editorial Board of the following journals: Messenger of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation; Efferent Therapy; Emergency Medical Care; Russian Annals of Children Surgery, Anesthesiology and Intensive Care; Neonatology; and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of journals Tolyatti Consilium Medicum, and Pediatr.
Major fields of research:
- Intensive care of acute cerebral failure in children and adults.
- Respiratory support in pediatric anesthesiology and intensive care.
- Formal assessment of severity of the patients in critical states.
- Remote consequences of critical states in children and life quality of children who underwent critical states.
- Organization of intensive care for children in need of transportation between hospitals.
Pr. Aleksandrovich pays special attention to introduction to the clinical practice of modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of various critical states in children.
In particular, he proposed an intensive care protocol for management of cerebral trauma in children, both for pre-hospital and hospital stages, which allowed achieving a significant reduction of lethal outcomes in this category of patients.
He was directly involved into the introduction to pediatric anesthesiology and intensive care units of the assessment methods for the state of central nervous and cardiac vascular systems such as monitoring of intracranial pressure, cerebral oxymetry, analysis of oxygen status etc.
The definite merit of Pr. Alexandrovich is that he developed the universal formal annual report and introduced it into the clinical practice of pediatric intensive care units, this report allows assessing the quality of intensive care provided to children and taking timely decisions in order to optimize intensive care and provide rational use of resources.
Pr. Alexandrovich has more than 300 publications and 10 monographs in the field of his research.
18 candidate's and 2 doctor's theses were successfully defended under his guidance.
Yury S. Aleksandrovich is strongly respected not only by his colleagues and workers of St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University but by professionals in many regions of the Russian Federation, many times he was invited to be a consultant and participant in numerous regional scientific-practical conferences.
